Soldier for Christ Based on Ephesians 6:10-18 (Jerry wrote while listening to a sermon 9/10/11)

Ephesians 6:10-18

Put on the full armor of God each and every day. A soldier puts on his armor to protect his front. He has nothing to cover his back because God has got his back and won’t allow us to be attacked from behind. We are in a war whether we want to be or not. We as Christians have to be on the alert full time. When our faith is tested let’s battle with full faith that it is a battle we are going to win because we have the God that made the universe as our General.

Our enemy has come to steal, kill and destroy – steal your joy of being on earth, kill your soul and let you spend eternity in hell with him and destroy your testimony and family. We need to stay strong and stay in the Word, close to God and ready for battle.

We as Christians have become too complacent and fall too easily. I am talking to myself. We must stay strong and not fall so easily. That’s why I believe we need to meditate on the Word of God, get it deep down in our heart so that we will have something to strike back with when we are tempted.

We need to take our faith as Christians more seriously. We don’t need to play with the devil Monday through Saturday and go to church on Sunday and act like everything is O.K. We as the body of Christ need to be doing God’s work and living the Christ-like life 7 days a week – 24 hours a day.

When we play with the devil it gets easier and easier to sin and we wake up one day and realize that we are far from God. But, if we stay vigilant and not cross the line the first time, then we will not have to worry about that. That’s why I am going to stay strong in Christ daily and meditate on the Word of God and do what He wants me to do – with His help and might and power.

Are You in the Army? Yes You Are! A Call to Battle! Are You Fighting the Fight?

spiritual warfare 4
Are you in a battle?

Do you need armor and weapons?

Who are you fighting for?

Ephesians 6:10-18 in my Bible is entitled “The Armor of God.” These verses give clear indication that every believer in Christ is in a real battle which requires real armor, real weapons, real training and has real consequences.

I ask a real question.

Are you personally in a battle or are you aware of the battle?

Many believers can say “yes” to this question quite easily. Some believers can even quote these verses and give an explanation of them. My point in asking these questions is that I do not see us living as though we are in a battle.

If we really understand that we are in a real battle then why are we not really fighting? And, of course, I mean fighting and battling spiritually. How much time and energy are we giving to maintaining, strengthening, putting on and taking care of our spiritual armor? How much attention are we paying to our own strategies for overcoming and tearing down deceits and schemes of the devil? Are we stuck in defense mode or the mentality of: “We’ll just hang on to our little corner over here and we’ll be fine?”

Even if you personally don’t feel as if you have a huge spiritual struggle and you find that standing firm in your faith comes easily – why armor? You don’t even have to think about putting it on – you automatically walk around and even sleep in your armor – struggle against sin in your life? Why, you were done with that garbage years ago!

Great – so – who do you love or who do you know that is still in the spiritual battle? That still has struggles? That is out there believing some of the lies that the devil puts out there? Who do you know or love whose faith is still new, or has gotten fragile or has grown dim?

We’ve heard terms like “leave no man behind” and “no child left behind.” What about the idea that as believers in Jesus that when we see a brother or a sister who are engaged in the spiritual battle – that we come to their aid and fight with them and even for them?

Most believers that I know would rather have a fellow brother or sister fighting side by side with them as each has put on the Armor of God and send up a mighty shout of praise to the Lord than to struggle, fight and endure alone. Also, they would much rather stand firm in their faith and have assistance than to struggle alone, fall or stumble.

There is a call to battle and that call to battle is still sounding forth today.

Nehemiah 4:20 Wherever you hear the sound of the trumpet, join us there. Our God will fight for us!”

“Wake up, O sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” Ephesians 5:14b

You have His resurrection power at work in you – rise and walk in newness of life in Christ and battle and fight and stand firm in His might, power and strength and put on your armor!

Pray in the Spirit at all times, without ceasing, for all believers everywhere.

Rise and fight! Answer the call to battle! Stand firm!

Ephesians 5:15-16 Be very careful, then, how you live – not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.

II Corinthians 10:3-5 For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of GOD, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

Ephesians 6:10-18 10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. 19 Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.

Praying in the Spirit is the seventh weapon in our arsenal of spiritual armor and makes our armor complete!

If you are battle ready, if you are not battle weary – I also urge us, my brothers and sisters – to aid one another in the battle!

The Body of Christ, the Bride of Christ, the Church should be acting in unity and coming alongside one another and prevailing against the gates of hell. Jesus said in Matthew 16:18 that the gates of Hades will not overcome His church. Friends, gates do not move. The church needs to be on the offense and taking back what the devil, our enemy, has stolen and what has been meant for evil to be turned around for GOD’s glory and good purposes.

Our LORD is all powerful and sovereign and He doesn’t necessarily have to have His people to do His work for His purposes to be accomplished. Indeed, the rocks would cry out His praise if no human voice was willing. But we are His people. We say that we love, respect and fear GOD. We call Jesus our LORD and Savior. We worship the Lamb and we serve the Lion of Judah.

Each to our posts! Watchmen, sound the alarms! Worshipers, raise your voice, play your instrument, write the songs and music and dance! Make His praise glorious! Preachers and teachers – inspire and equip the saints and speak His word as He gives utterance as you are filled with His Spirit. Prayer warriors and intercessors – weep and pray! Givers – give to bodies of believers who are going to share the gospel and make disciples and feed and clothe the poor and the needy. Healers – go forth and bring spiritual and physical healing.

We are each gifted, talented and equipped for a unique and specific purpose. Let us each take up our posts in the spiritual battle waging in this present age and give our all to our LORD.

He wants you. Yes, you are called to be a minister of reconciliation and an Ambassador of Christ. Take up your Armor of God and walk in the strength and power of His might, in His righteousness (not your own) and be Spirit-filled and Spirit led. Pray without stopping for every saint everywhere.

May the Bride say, “Come quickly, we are ready.”

“Faith is our method and His resurrection power is our fuel…” a line from the letter that I sent to Jerry, today.

We walk by faith and His power is what enables us…

We walk by faith in His righteousness being given to us to wear as a breastplate and when God sees us, He sees His Son, and accepts us as His children. We walk by faith in Jesus blood washing us clean. We walk by faith in the goodness and the sovereignty of God. We walk by faith in His unfailing love. We walk by faith in His plan and that the thoughts and plans that He has for us are for our good, not to harm us, to prosper us and give us hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11-14) We walk by faith that when we pray to Him and seek Him with all of our hearts that He hears us and He answers us. We walk by faith in the knowledge that He has given us eternal life with Him and that He rewards those who diligently seek Him. We walk by faith in His ability and willingness to heal us and to give us His peace. We walk by faith in His Word and in His precepts and we trust that His ways are good and higher than ours. We walk by faith that He knows best and what is good or bad for us as He is our Creator and our Heavenly Father.

We are empowered to walk in this faith wherever He leads us. His resurrection power is at work today and is available to us today. When believers unite in faith and in His strength, His might, His righteousness, His finished work on the cross, His authority and His power, then watch out! The gates of hell shall not prevail! The gates of hell don’t move, they don’t attack! They are sitting there and when we choose to tear them down and take back what the devil has stolen from us and run him out of our lives – this will be amazing. Let’s rise up warriors! Get ready to prevail for God’s glory. Take back your joy, take back your sons and daughters, praise the Lord in the good and the bad times and learn from Jesus and be ready to do spiritual battle for your life and your loved one’s lives.

God bless you!

I got a letter from Jerry from him in jail, today. Actually two letters from him came together and kind of a sermon to share with all of you. It will take a little time to get it all typed up but I will share ASAP.
