Released from Jail – Jerry Writes on May 10, 2014

I got released from jail yesterday and I’m going to do what my Lord wants me to do. Psalm 39:5 tells how fleeting this life is so we need to be about our Father’s work and forsake the worldly desires. Psalm 40:2 tells how Jesus has lifted me out of the slimy pit and set my feet on a Rock. That’s what our Lord wants to do for all of us.

Yesterday, when I did go to court all of the people involved in my case were acting surprised that I was in jail when I had not been convicted. I could really be bitter and say that I had been locked up for the last 3 1/2 weeks for nothing. But, I know that my God is in control and nothing happens without a reason. God did have a purpose for me being in there. I don’t know, may never know, why I was in there but I know that God is good.

I could even say it wasn’t fair, but as I sit here reading Matthew this morning and thinking about what Jesus went through for me – was that fair? Anyway, I was reading  Ephesians 1:17 and found this verse that I pray that all of us as Christians desire because I have learned especially in the last 3 1/2 week that the more we pray and read the Bible and get deeper into God – the more of Himself that He does reveal to us.

Psalm 46:1-3 While I was in jail I really came to the realization that God is more than enough for me in any trial that I will ever go through. It took me years to realize how good my God is. Once we get hold of that simple truth we are changed forever. Let’s lean on God for everything we need and for protection because He is more than enough.

In Matthew 10:30 Jesus tells His disciples that God had the hairs on their heads numbered. We serve a God that knows everything about us but He still loves us even when we are unlovable. He wants us, He wants us to acknowledge Him before men and He will acknowledge us before the Father. He goes on in the chapter telling us that He has got to be # 1. We cannot love anything on this earth more than we love Jesus. If we do, it is an idol, or false god. He also says in the same chapter that we must take up our cross and follow Him. If we really think about that, we realize that Jesus is telling us that following Him is a daily struggle, but it is a struggle that is worth it. We are going to struggle against the flesh, its wants and desires, but if we keep our eye on Jesus we know that everything that we are going through is worth it.

It also tells us in Matthew 10 that if we are telling someone about Jesus and they don’t accept Him, they aren’t rejecting us, but Jesus. So, let us share our faith and our love for God with holy boldness and not fear.

Mark 4:35-41

Jesus Calms the Storm

35 That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” 36 Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. 37 A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped.38 Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”

39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.

40 He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

41 They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”

How many of us are more likely to praise Jesus on the mountain top, but when we are in the valley or storm that’s when we need to cling to Jesus the hardest. When we are in the storm we might feel like Jesus is asleep on the job but Jesus is in the storm with us.

Jesus just knew that everything was going to be all right and we, like the disciples, go to Jesus and tell Him we are perishing even though He is in the storm with us and knows what is going on. He told the storm: “Peace. Be still!” And there was a great calm. Then Jesus asked them why they were afraid.

Have you still no faith? Now from time to time we may question our faith, but if we get in the Bible we will see that many people have done the same thing. How do we strengthen our faith? By reading the Bible and clinging tightly to our Jesus in the storm. He will never leave us or forsake us, so when the faith building storm blows through our life, let’s just wait on our Jesus to say: “Peace. Be still!” to our storm.

In Matthew 14:22-32 These verses area bout Jesus and Peter walking on the water. When the disciples first saw Jesus, they thought it was a ghost. But Jesus told them that it was Him and to not be afraid. Peter asked Jesus if he could come to Him on the water and Jesus said, “Come.” But when Peter looked at the circumstances; Peter started sinking. We need to know from that verse that if Jesus tells us to come that He is not going to let anything happen to us! Our Savior is a supernatural being who loves us and just wants us to believe in Him, love Him and have faith in Him.

We are living a little over 2,000 years since all of those miracles happened but our God is NOT out of miracles. When Peter was sinking, he cried out, “Lord, save me!” Jesus immediately reached out His hand and took hold of him. “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” asked Jesus. When they got into the boat the wind ceased. We can still have faith in the Lord our  God, that no matter what we are going through, He is with us.

If we keep our mind, eyes and heart on Jesus on the mountaintop and in the valley when the storms of life will (not if) come, then our Redeemer will save us. There are literally hundreds of verses in the  Bible that tells us to have faith and we still want to doubt. Do I think that the people of great faith of the Bible wanted to go through what they went through? I would say no! But they knew that their Father loved them and would see them through or they would die adn be with their Father!

That is the kind of faith that we all as Christians should desire – that no matter what happens to us we know that our Father is in control. I’m in a storm and I know Father has not abandoned me. I know that He is in here with me and I know that He is out there with my wife and children and that He is keeping them safe and at peace about the situation.

People of great faith are remembered in the Bible. Some were tortured, refusing to accept release, that they might rise again to a better life. Others suffered mocking and flogging and even chains and imprisonment. They were stoned, they were sawn in to, they were killed with the sword. They went about in skins of sheep and goats, destitute, afflicted, mistreated – of whom the world was not worthy, wandering about in deserts and mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth. (Hebrews 11:36-38)

God knew that all of these people were strong enough in their faith to go through what their and our Father was putting them through. He talked to some in an audible voice but God still speaks to us: through the ones that have or are going through the same thing that we are going through, through the Bible and yes God can and does speak to us through an audible voice. (The Holy Spirit speaks to us through a still, small voice) He also showed us as believers what they went through in the Bible to let us know that He is with us and reading their stories may help build our faith.

So, let us as believers stay strong in the faith and let Jesus shine out of us that others may want Jesus in their lives.

I have decided today with the help of my Lord to tackle me and my wife’s favorite verse and it’s also a lot of other people’s favorite verse.

Jeremiah 29:11-14 (ESV) For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with your whole heart. I will be found by you, declares the Lord, and I will restore your fortunes and gather you from all the nations and all the places I have driven you, declares the Lord, and I will bring you back to the place from which I sent you into exile.

Now, everyone loves verse 11, including me and my wife. If our God has plans to prosper us and to give us a future and hope then you know the plans are going to be good. It may and probably isn’t material gain it may be doing Kingdom work and our reward will be in heaven with our Lord – which will be fine with me. And we know that our lives as Christians are full of hope for the future because we are going to spend eternity with our Lord Jesus.

When we call upon our Lord and pray to Him – He will hear us. We will seek Him and find Him, when we seek Him with our whole heart. He will be found by us and restore us. This book called the Bible is not fairy tales: it is the true Word of our God. II Timothy 3:16 tells us, “All scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”

When we as Christians are having a down day, let us all get some favorite scriptures to remember. God has equipped each and every one of us to want to do something for Him. Let’s get about our Father’s work and stop worrying about the world. God has got everyone of our situations in His hand. Just be still and know that He is God.

John 1:1-5 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him and without Him was not any thing made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”

I think this verse is telling us that Jesus is the Word and it’s telling us that Jesus and God are one and the same. It’s also telling us that even today that nothing was made without Him. Jesus gives us light and eternal life. The darkness has not and never will overcome the light because He is light and created the light.

God is good to us each and every day. His mercies are new each and every day. I’m in jail because of something that I did. I used to blame everything that went wrong in my life on God but I have come to a deeper understanding and walk with my Savior. Is it hard to be in here away from the ones I love? Yes, it is, but I know that my family loves me and that I have to lean on Jesus. I know where I’m going at the end of all of this and that is what really matters.

Just remember that Jesus loves you and have faith that He arose and ascended and is on the right hand of God making intercession for us. Just remember that God loves us. It is that simple.

Ashamed of Us, 2fools4Christ? Do Not Fear!

Well, it looks like mother and I will be trying to relax up here in TN until tomorrow morning. God is good. We will praise Him no matter what – we had these same issues from 2010 to 2012 in getting to see the right judge on the right day, but God was orchestrating miracles all along the way. We were able to look back and see that and we can still see that today and know that this time He is still for us and loves us with an unfailing love. Though we struggle we do not fall. He upholds us with His righteous right hand. He has plans for our good, to prosper and not to harm us and for us to have a future and a living hope. We do have a living hope. Like Jerry Dingler said to me in his letters from jail, “But we are not like those who are without hope. We do have a living hope in our Living Lord!” Our Lord does not abandon the work of His hands and He completes the good work that He began in us and He is faithful to complete it.

Friends, you do not need to be ashamed of us for being here. You do not need to fear for us or for our or your or the Lord’s reputation. God is in control. This following verse helped me when I was feeling condemnation towards Jerry as God Himself was dealing with Jerry and his walk with the Lord: Romans 14:4 ” Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To their own master, servants stand or fall. And they will stand, for the Lord is able to make them stand.” Like wow! I hope that hits you like it did me several months ago! I was trying to control every minute detail of our lives and fix Jerry and our family – with tons of prayer and prayer books and being “perfect” myself in order to help him not be ever stressed out in any way and maintain harmony in the house and make sure he read his Bible every day and prayed every day and prayed with me, blah blah blah…

God told me to get out of the way! He said “I am Jerry’s Lord and Savior, not you. How can Jerry hear the still small voice of my Spirit when you are hovering and smothering and criticizing and accusing and demanding all of the time?” God also let me know to love like He loves… uhm… can you say not easy? Hard? Reluctant? But can you also say, OK? And forgive, and when you see someone really trying, be there for them and encourage them when they are truly trying? Can you swallow your right to be angry and feel betrayed and worried and want to punish and make them regret their behavior and make them mean it and feel some of the anguish that they have caused you?

AND NO YOU CANNOT DO THIS WITHOUT SURRENDERING COMPLETELY TO THE LORD AND LETTING HIM DO THIS WORK IN YOU FROM THE INSIDE OUT AND THROUGH HIS HOLY SPIRIT.

It starts with the choice to surrender to Jesus, to know that you cannot do anything without Him and that you choose to be obedient to His call to love as He loves, to love God with all that you are and to love your neighbor as yourself… love your spouse, love your sister, love your brother. I am mainly speaking right now of my own experience with my sweet husband, a man that I know sincerely never wanted to be in jail again. That never wanted to do anything to separate himself from his family or the Lord. A man that prayed for God’s will to be done and meant it. A man that started out on a journey of complete surrender in 2010 that has brought him to a deeper level of understanding of the fullness of the love of Jesus.

I call it a miracle now in the name of Jesus. I am seeing prayers fulfilled over and over – because we did pray for complete surrender to God’s will, for His way or no way, for His leading, guiding and filling – every day. Maybe he or I meant it more one day than others, perhaps we stumbled in addictions, actions, attitudes, motives – perhaps we sinned/sin along our journey to see the face of Jesus. We struggle with our flesh all the time between our spirit and our flesh they are at war with each other, but that is also how we know that God is at work in us. We do not want to do the things that we used to do. We pray and wish and hope and yearn for the day that we never ever have to battle this flesh again. We are told to work out our own salvation with fear and trembling. Yes we are saved by grace through faith in Jesus. That is why He died for us. He knew we needed Him to cleanse us of each sin, past present and future. Jesus knew who we were when He called us to accept His free gift of salvation and yet still loved us. And God has a reason for our journey. I know it is also to touch each of you that found yourself reading these words. I pray that God’s purpose for you to read this is fulfilled and I know that it will be. He knew your story before you were formed and born into the world. He loved you then and He loves you now. Please surrender to Him, today. ❤ God bless you!
