Guilty Conscience?

Guilty Conscience?

When God placed Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden there was no such thing as a guilty conscience. That is until they ate the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Before Adam and Eve ate the fruit from that tree, the Bible says in Genesis 2:25 “Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.” After eating of the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, Genesis 3:7 says, “Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.”

Before disobeying God and having their eyes opened to their nakedness and the differences between them and God, Adam and Eve would walk in the garden with God and have no fear or shame. Without feeling inferior and without feeling the need to hide from God or to try to rise above Him, Adam and Eve had fellowship with God until they ate the fruit from the tree.

Adam made the choice to eat the fruit and to have this knowledge of good and evil without knowing what the consequences would be. I would dare say that even if God had (and perhaps He did) explained why this would be a bad thing for them to do that Adam and Eve could not have understood the reasoning. Having had no experience with sin or consequences of sin, or with guilt or shame, there would have been great difficulty for them to understand the importance of obeying this one command.

But God did know and He did give them the command in order to protect them and to save them from the curse of death coming into the world for them. The LORD did not stop coming to fellowship with them. No. God came instead, seeking them out. God came to them and He already knew the answers to the questions that He asked them. But He asked them in order for Adam and Eve to be able to confess and to see that He would still love them and be with them. God slew animals and made clothing for them to wear to protect them. He knew that mere fig leaves would not be good enough protection for them. Also, the first blood covering took place right there in the garden as God made provision for His people. God knew from the foundation of the earth that Christ would be the ultimate sacrifice for the sins of mankind.

In Hebrews 9 there is a verse that came to mind as I was awakened by my daughter after being asleep for only twenty minutes, lol. But this verse made me start thinking about Adam and Eve in the garden and how they didn’t know what a guilty conscience was until they made that first mistake and chose to see if God knew what He was talking about or not. So, I got up and I read Hebrews 9 and Genesis 2 and 3 and started writing this down. I think it is important to think about and pray about and let God reveal Himself to us in this.

Here comes the good part.

If you have a guilty conscience, have ever had a guilty conscience, or know what a guilty conscience feels like, then Hebrews 9 has the remedy for you!

Hebrews 9:14 “But Christ offered himself to God without any flaw. He did this through the power of the eternal Holy Spirit. So how much more will his blood wash from our minds our feelings of guilt for committing sin! Sin always leads to death. But now we can serve the living God.”

Another translation says, “How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!”

How do we have our consciences cleansed? How is there now therefore NO new CONDEMNATION to them who are saved? (Romans 8:1) The blood of Jesus cleanses us. The blood of Jesus brings life to us where the sin of Adam brought death into the world. Adam brought the knowledge of good and evil into our existence and awakened those feelings of guilt, shame and separation that cause us such pain. But praises be to God the Father! He sent Jesus to live a blameless life in the flesh and to shed His own blood for us in order to cleanse us – not only on the outside – but most of all, on the inside!
Our spirits are made alive unto God again when we accept that Jesus’ blood paid the price for all of our sins, once and for all. We don’t need a new sacrifice every time that we sin because Jesus paid for all sin with one perfect sacrificial act of love for us. As one who has attempted suicide many times due to a guilty conscience, Hebrews 9:14 and Romans 8:1 are both very powerful to me.

Sin upsets me. My own sin especially upsets me. I do not want to sin. I do not want to hurt others and I do not want to disappoint my LORD. But I know that I do. I am not perfect and I will not be perfect in my own motives or actions. While I walk this earth in the flesh I know that I am not and will not be perfect. Only Jesus is perfect and all of my hope is in Him.

I used to feel so ashamed, so guilt-ridden and so full of self-hatred. I thank God that He has changed all of that for me and that I do feel whole. I know that I am forgiven. I know that I am loved by God. I know that Jesus is my loving Shepherd.

You can know this, too.

Do you need to know this? Let us know if you want to know more. At least check out our page “The Power of the Gospel.”

You can get rid of your guilty conscience once and for all, right now  God bless you and keep you!

Jerry writes from Jail “Random Thoughts and Ramblings for My Lord Jesus Christ 4/21/14”

Philippians 4:6-7 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

I claim these verses for me and my family as we go through our trial. God is going to keep us as long as we keep our Redeemer in first place. The world of people that don’t know Jesus just think this is all crazy fairy tales but I know that God is real. Because I can pray to my God and He answers me. No, He doesn’t always give me what I want but He always gives me what I need.

Luke 6:27-28 tells us to love our enemies, do good to them that hate us, bless those that curse you and pray for those that despitefully use you. Does this sound like a God that hates people? He is love wants everyone to believe in Him.

Luke 6:35 is also a good verse: “35 But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be childrenof the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.”

Luke 9:56 is also a good verse: “For the Son of man is not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them. And they went to another village” (KJV). This verse says that the Son of man is not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them. Jesus doesn’t want to condemn anyone but He wants to give everyone life to the full.

I can tell you from experience and I’m really trying to drive this home so I’m not going to quit saying it, there is no better high than serving our Lord because when you are in the world the people that you thought were your friends will be gone in a minute, but not the Lord! He will stick closer to you than a brother. He will never leave you nor forsake you, when times are tough for us and it looks like all there is – is darkness, that’s when Jesus shines the brightest, He shows up and shows out for His people. He is not some weak God like the world thinks that He is, He is a mighty warrior ready to go to war to save the lost and hurting to give them hope. So let’s get the word out that the war against the devil and his minions is on – and we are going to win because we serve a living God that loves people and doesn’t want any to go to hell. We all have the Great Commission, now don’t get me wrong, you have to know that the time is right and have no fear about talking about our Jesus and be Spirit led.

We love Jesus, He is always to be the main focus of anything we say or do. He is always the Head. Amen.

Jerry Writes from Jail “Random Thoughts & Ramblings for My Lord Jesus Christ 4/19/14”

I started reading Luke this morning and haven’t made it past the 1st chapter and have got to stop and shout it from the rooftop about how good and powerful our God is. He sent Gabriel to Elizabeth and the KJV Bible says she is well stricken in years and told her that she was going to have a baby and then sent Gabriel to a virgin and told her she was going to have the son of God. God is still just as powerful today than ever. He sent an angel to tell both women one well stricken in years and one a virgin that they were going to have babies. Our God is good to us and His mercy endures forever if we accept Him and turn from our wicked ways. he loves us and He has the best plan for us if we just trust Him to carry it out. I know very well how hard it is to wait on God but if we run ahead of Him like the Israelites in the OT the only thing waiting on them was defeat just as defeat will be waiting on us. God’s plan and timing are perfect. I think that if the God we serve can create the universe, then helping His children is nothing to Him.

Me and my wife have been talking of free will and I will have to talk with my wife about this but I am going to write it down while I’m thinking about it. We do have free will in the sense that we can choose God or reject Him. We can think whatever we want or we can take our thoughts captive. But God uses us in some way. He has a plan for us and if we go through life and don’t accept Him we are still placed on earth for a purpose. The God I serve doesn’t make something for nothing.

We as Americans have been blessed because we have always been a Christian nation. Abortions are like an everyday thing now, gay marriage is legal in some states while we as Christians stick our head in the sand and act like everything is okay. It’s time for us to take back our nation for our children, because if the Lord tarries, what are we leaving them? Nothing but a mess. But it isn’t too late for all of us as Christians to go back and do what the Bible tells us to do. I have always had a problem with thinking that on the national issues that I cannot do anything, surely someone will do something – and the next thing I know is they are telling us Christians that we are weak-kneed sissies and we just need to go away and worship this God that doesn’t exist in a corner somewhere and be quiet about it.

The God that I serve is a mighty God, He is a warrior, we will not be quiet because our God will fight for us and if He is for me who can be against me? Let’s all as Christians quit acting like we’re scared to say who we worship and let’s rise up and say it proudly because we know we have the real God on our side!

There are people going around today telling every body that the Bible isn’t real, that it’s all allegories to get a point across. I would like to say that the Bible is real each and every word in it. I mean if we think about it, who if they were going to write a fake book but one that was going to convince people that it’s a real book about God, would put the story of Jonah and the whale, David and the giant, Noah and the ark… and the list goes on… ???

Our God is so mighty that the stories that are in there about Him are so big that they can only be by and about God. No man can do what our God can do. [And when a man trusts God, there is no limit to what he can do according to God’s purposes.] That is why all of those stories are in there. PTL! [Praise the Lord!]

Our God is mighty. He is mighty to save! Let’s put our trust in the Lord and rise up and say that we’re proud to have a God that everyone wants to prove is not real. You know that He is real because everyone that doesn’t want others to believe in Him or accept Him doesn’t want anyone else to, either. He is a God of miracles and if He is for us who can be against us? Let’s all as brothers and sisters in Christ keep going after Him, hard, and while we do, let’s tell as many people as we can about Him and His love. That is the Great Commission. Let’s get back to to the real Bible and not be afraid to tell people that we are not perfect but we believe every word of the Bible.

[This is Angela – the other 1/2 of 2fools4Christ – I apologize that the blog had to be neglected for a few days due to no internet service at home. I have been able to get that matter resolved and we, 2fools4Christ, are so glad to be able to update our readers about all that is going on in our lives. Our goal is primarily to share the GOOD NEWS of JESUS, the GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST, and to share how that plays out in real life and how that looks by being transparent in our walk. We want to share the TRUTH with you and that involves sharing how we are imperfect, yet growing, maturing spiritually, and learning more from our Lord and Savior, Jesus, every day. Also, we want to share how good God is, how faithful and true that He is, how His love is unfailing, and how He comforts, protects, guides, teaches and blesses us and so much more! God bless you!]

Jerry from Jail Writes “Praise and Faith and Random Thoughts and Ramblings April 17, 2014”

Are we as Christians just to praise God when everything is going our way? There are many examples in the Bible for us to go by. When we are broken is when God is ready to reveal His plan for us. When we have tears coming down our face with our hearts broken saying, “I love you God! I praise You.” I have really been in that situation lately. I don’t know what God is doing but I know that I trust Him and love Him no matter what. He has been too good to me and my family for me to turn from Him. I love God more each and every day and can’t wait to wake up and serve Him and praise His name, again.

Even though the situation I am in is of my own doing, it didn’t catch God by surprise. God knows our situations and He is always with us no matter where we are. He knows what we need and don’t need. He is an awesome God. At the core of everything God is love. He created us in His image, His children, to love and to talk to and for us to talk to and listen to Him. I love praying to the Father because I know He loves me unconditionally.

He knew us and everything that we were going to do in our life before the creation of the world. He knew that we were going to need Him to save us. Let’s think about it this way: before we, as parents, had our children if we would have thought about it, we knew that our children were going to be imperfect and that they were going to make mistakes. But, that didn’t stop us with God’s helping hand from having them. That’s why I want to urge everyone to embrace God because He loves you and wants the best for all of us. Does it involve pain? Sometimes, yes, but it’s a pain that is not for nothing. It’s to teach us, grow us or show us something. We will live a lifetime and never be perfect. But if we “acknowledge Him in all of our ways then He will make our paths straight.”

The main thing is to keep God first no matter what the situation looks like. Just trust Him and listen for the small, still voice. Even though we aren’t perfect it isn’t a license for us to do what we want to do. We are to get closer and be growing closer to God each and every day, month and year that goes by. If we aren’t growing then we are getting stagnant and going backwards and I want to tell you that neither of those are good. All we have to do to grow is read the Bible and read slow enough that we hear from God and understand what we are reading, pray, and before that we have to acknowledge that Jesus is the Son of God and turn from our sins.

My faith a lot of times is tested on a daily basis, not so much in jail, and my faith is tested in a lot of different ways. I don’t always pass. Sometimes I fail and it ends up making me stronger and makes me love God more and more because He keeps helping me get back up out of the mire. I have messed up a large portion of my life but I am now growing in Christ daily and getting stronger and ready to do what He wants me to do.

God will never give up on you. We are going to go through trials in this life and I want to tell everyone that it’s better to have God than not have Him when we face the trials and storms of this life. That’s what the whole human race really needs is Jesus. This life that we are living on earth is just a blip on the radar (if that much) compared to eternity. Without the mercy of God, people that are walking around lost are walking on eggshells. I was doing it for over 30 years and God kept me until I did surrender to Jesus. Jesus tells us to put our burdens on Him and to take His yoke because it is light.

I have a story about my life that I want to share. I was sitting in the Etowah County Jail in December 2002. I would go to church because I was thinking that it got me out of my cell for an hour or so but God was working on my heart. I was saved in there in December and I took a look at my life and saw that up to that point I had really wasted every bit of it. I was on my way to prison for the 3rd time. I had no one to write or come and see me and I cried out to my  God and said I wanted a family – I wanted someone that cared about me.

In 2004 I got out with nowhere to stay so the probation officer told me that I had to stay at the Salvation Army. I ended up walking to my aunt’s house and living with her, really in a small apartment we called rooms. I ended up meeting my wife while I lived there but I also started backsliding. I was having pre-marital sex and I was starting to drink again. I ended up running from God and getting into trouble for D.U.I. in 2005. My soon to be wife was pregnant with our son. I ended up doing 60 days on the D.U.I. and our son was born on Dec. 25th. Me and my wife got married in Jan. 2006.

I just wanted everyone to know that God loves us. He isn’t just sitting up there waiting to zap us. Jesus went through the same things that we go through. I have messed up a lot in my life and I tell everyone when I give my testimony that if God can and did save me after all that I have done in my life, then He can save anyone that is willing to accept Him. Even after I accepted Him I still did things like drinking that I know I shouldn’t be doing. But I really re-dedicated my life to Him, again, and He has kept me strong ever since then. I do love the Lord and if it is meant for me to go into the ministry I am willing and ready. For now I am a jailhouse preacher and will do what I feel like God wants me to do while I am here.

I really think that we as Christians need to put God first in everything that we do. That is what I have been trying to do. We, or at least, I need more Jesus and less of the world. Like John said, “He must increase, I must decrease.” That is my goal for the rest of my life. More of Jesus shining out of me each and every day. I have been put into a situation to where I can’t read the Bible because I don’t have my reading glasses, and my beautiful wife in her wisdom told me to meditate on what I already knew, that’s what I’ve been doing.

Just keep God in first place and everything else will fall into place. If you do accept Christ please don’t be ashamed of Him because it is in Him that we have hope; not in this world and it’s fleeting pleasures.

Let’s all rise up like mighty warriors and say, “I love Jesus!” with no shame or guilt but with pride on our face and in our hearts because of who He is. We don’t need to hide in the shadows afraid to say or do something because our Father is the Father of Light. Let’s knock the god-haters out of the spotlight and take it back and let our voice be heard.

Let’s speak with the boldness of the Holy Spirit. Let’s shout! “I love God! I praise God!”

I’m not ashamed of it and if you don’t want to do the same or do, I’ll pray for you. Praise the Lord!
