Do you need armor and weapons?
Who are you fighting for?
Ephesians 6:10-18 in my Bible is entitled “The Armor of God.” These verses give clear indication that every believer in Christ is in a real battle which requires real armor, real weapons, real training and has real consequences.
I ask a real question.
Are you personally in a battle or are you aware of the battle?
Many believers can say “yes” to this question quite easily. Some believers can even quote these verses and give an explanation of them. My point in asking these questions is that I do not see us living as though we are in a battle.
If we really understand that we are in a real battle then why are we not really fighting? And, of course, I mean fighting and battling spiritually. How much time and energy are we giving to maintaining, strengthening, putting on and taking care of our spiritual armor? How much attention are we paying to our own strategies for overcoming and tearing down deceits and schemes of the devil? Are we stuck in defense mode or the mentality of: “We’ll just hang on to our little corner over here and we’ll be fine?”
Even if you personally don’t feel as if you have a huge spiritual struggle and you find that standing firm in your faith comes easily – why armor? You don’t even have to think about putting it on – you automatically walk around and even sleep in your armor – struggle against sin in your life? Why, you were done with that garbage years ago!
Great – so – who do you love or who do you know that is still in the spiritual battle? That still has struggles? That is out there believing some of the lies that the devil puts out there? Who do you know or love whose faith is still new, or has gotten fragile or has grown dim?
We’ve heard terms like “leave no man behind” and “no child left behind.” What about the idea that as believers in Jesus that when we see a brother or a sister who are engaged in the spiritual battle – that we come to their aid and fight with them and even for them?
Most believers that I know would rather have a fellow brother or sister fighting side by side with them as each has put on the Armor of God and send up a mighty shout of praise to the Lord than to struggle, fight and endure alone. Also, they would much rather stand firm in their faith and have assistance than to struggle alone, fall or stumble.
There is a call to battle and that call to battle is still sounding forth today.
Nehemiah 4:20 Wherever you hear the sound of the trumpet, join us there. Our God will fight for us!”
“Wake up, O sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” Ephesians 5:14b
You have His resurrection power at work in you – rise and walk in newness of life in Christ and battle and fight and stand firm in His might, power and strength and put on your armor!
Pray in the Spirit at all times, without ceasing, for all believers everywhere.
Rise and fight! Answer the call to battle! Stand firm!
Ephesians 5:15-16 Be very careful, then, how you live – not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.
II Corinthians 10:3-5 For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of GOD, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
Ephesians 6:10-18 10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. 19 Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.
Praying in the Spirit is the seventh weapon in our arsenal of spiritual armor and makes our armor complete!
If you are battle ready, if you are not battle weary – I also urge us, my brothers and sisters – to aid one another in the battle!
The Body of Christ, the Bride of Christ, the Church should be acting in unity and coming alongside one another and prevailing against the gates of hell. Jesus said in Matthew 16:18 that the gates of Hades will not overcome His church. Friends, gates do not move. The church needs to be on the offense and taking back what the devil, our enemy, has stolen and what has been meant for evil to be turned around for GOD’s glory and good purposes.
Our LORD is all powerful and sovereign and He doesn’t necessarily have to have His people to do His work for His purposes to be accomplished. Indeed, the rocks would cry out His praise if no human voice was willing. But we are His people. We say that we love, respect and fear GOD. We call Jesus our LORD and Savior. We worship the Lamb and we serve the Lion of Judah.
Each to our posts! Watchmen, sound the alarms! Worshipers, raise your voice, play your instrument, write the songs and music and dance! Make His praise glorious! Preachers and teachers – inspire and equip the saints and speak His word as He gives utterance as you are filled with His Spirit. Prayer warriors and intercessors – weep and pray! Givers – give to bodies of believers who are going to share the gospel and make disciples and feed and clothe the poor and the needy. Healers – go forth and bring spiritual and physical healing.
We are each gifted, talented and equipped for a unique and specific purpose. Let us each take up our posts in the spiritual battle waging in this present age and give our all to our LORD.
He wants you. Yes, you are called to be a minister of reconciliation and an Ambassador of Christ. Take up your Armor of God and walk in the strength and power of His might, in His righteousness (not your own) and be Spirit-filled and Spirit led. Pray without stopping for every saint everywhere.
May the Bride say, “Come quickly, we are ready.”
