Please see my reading of an excerpt from the article:
The article is on
and the name is “How the World Sees a Drug Addict” by Shannon Palmer:
A family member that I love dearly who is also in recovery shared this article today. I read the article in a video and will post it when I get it compressed. This is a very emotional topic for me.
I love the part in the article where the author shares her own story of addiction and recovery and she also says that every addict is a “COMPLETELY REDEEMABLE HUMAN LIFE!”
Here are some of the COMMENTS from Facebook… I am making the writers of the comments anonymous, but I will put my initials by my own comments.
** So true but sometimes so hard not to rail out at these disillusioned people. Sometimes I think the word “happy” is the link to this kind of thinking. How about being content, satisfied with the life we have instead of always seeking “our happy place”? Jesus is the only real answer to any and all of our struggles. Thank you for sharing this story *******.
**AD** So true, ******. Yes, in the article she talks about never mind feeling good, she just wanted to feel OK. She mentions that she has to seek maintain her spiritual growth every day and that her sobriety is God given and is by His grace. And from my own experience, knowing Jesus is the ONLY answer to my own struggles and it was His love alone that has saved me from myself and my own misconceptions and errant perceptions about God our Father, other people’s opinions, my own self worth, etc… I do praise the Lord that Jesus met me where I was and picked me up and has been working in me to set me free and to keep me free. I do think it could have gone a lot quicker if there were more of us out there that do that, love like Jesus, are filled with His Spirit to move in compassion. Love people where they are and try to understand their pain and extend the love of Jesus and His Spirit with them. Only He can transform us by His blood and wonder working power, but we can share Him with those who are hurting when He puts them in our path or when they are in our lives and we see them struggling. I know *****, you know where I am coming from and this is difficult to do, to love us who are lost while we are lost…. but look what God is doing smile emoticon heart emoticon and who He transforms us into… every born again believer is really a recovering addict from sin sickness. We were all slaves to sin until redeemed and delivered by Jesus. Every recovering “addict” that I know that has gone through AA or NA or CR will probably agree that behind that “addiction” there are character defects that we must humbly examine ourselves to see in the light of our spiritual experience with the Lord and be willing to surrender to Him to change in us – thus – the renewing of our minds, the re-birth from dead to Christ into being alive with Him and with His Spirit bearing witness with ours… to remain and grow stronger and freer from our mindset of being a slave to sin, we must feed this new man and give Him spiritual food from the Word of God, from spending time in His presence, from sitting at the feet of Jesus. All the while, He is the author and finisher of our faith and it is God who works in us to will and to act according to His good purpose. So, we gotta be patient with each other in our stories of faith and in our journey to become mature in the Lord. He will complete the good work that He began in us and He will not abandon the work of His hands. Bearing with one another in brotherly love and gently restoring one another, all while standing firm in our faith in Jesus and lifting one another up in prayer, being led by His Spirit is the answer. We cannot trust each other to be better or do better. We trust in Jesus to do the work in us and to finish that which He starts in us. Sorry I went off on a long comment! But I am so passionate about this because the Lord keeps pounding this into me!
**AD** I could not say this any better! This is what I want to share, this is exactly how I feel. Love is definitely the answer for every other human. None of us are perfect anyway and this article sure sums it all up so well! Sharing. I may even read this on a video post for our blog. This touched my heart very much. Thank you for sharing ***** and God bless you continually!
** Had to share this. “Completely redeemable human lives” love that.
**AD** but only had or ever has an upper hand because they try to trick us into believing a lie… the demons are defeated foes and their only power is to present a lie to us – we aren’t loved, we aren’t worthy of love, we are no good, nobody loves us, we are ugly, we are useless, God hates us, God wants to punish us, etc….. when the truth is revealed to us we have to believe it and walk it out, stand firm in it, even if we don’t see it yet… fake it ’til you make it kind of thing, you know? where we just take it as fact that we can be free to begin with, that someone really does love us, that His name is Jesus, that He died for us and shed His blood for us He loved us so much and that He gave us power in His name to speak to this mountain move and it shall move! to say to the enemy “Go, get behind me, take your hands off of me and my family you defeated, powerless enemy, in the name of Jesus I command you to come out from among me and never return for the Lord God Almighty, the Most High, Jesus Christ is for me and His blood covers me and I am blameless and you have no right or authority to come against me. You defeated enemy of the cross and of humanity, you have no legal rights against me, my slate is clean and God created me for His purpose, so now you go and leave me to my Father for I am about His business!” We gotta learn the truth from the Word and speak it out loud and walk in it. We gotta speak it for one reason because the silly devil and his minions cannot read our minds – they cannot know what we are thinking so we gotta tell them, GO! Our free will works both ways, when we surrender to Jesus we are telling the devil no! I don’t wanna do it my way or the enemy’s way, I wanna do it God’s way, from now on! Again, I got long winded, I apologize. God is teaching us, praise His holy name and to God be the glory. I LOVE YOU!
