Jesus Is Unsettling

Why do people feel unsettled at the name of Jesus?

Some feel repelled instantly at the moment they hear or see the name of Jesus.

Others feel drawn instantly at the mention of the name, Jesus.

Either way – the effect of this name, Jesus – can be unsettling.

There is power in this name because of who He is. For those who deny Him and claim that He is not the Son of God, the Most High Priest, Savior, Redeemer, Messiah – why does the name of Jesus evoke such powerful responses?

The reason for such unsettling feelings in response to Jesus’ name is that He is who He says He is. Once we really turn to this personal Jesus to see for ourselves who He is, we are confronted with an all powerful, pure, holy, loving manifestation of the Father that is alive and is real. When we hear this name, Jesus, and this name becomes more than a name – more than a set of teachings, more than ideologies, more than good thoughts, more than a man-made religion – then we see who we are, as well.

That is one reason why the name of Jesus is unsettling. Because when we really consider Him, Jesus, a man but not man – God in flesh – alive and speaking to us today, loving us today, confronting us today but ready to forgive and reconcile with us today…

Well, then we have a decision to make.

When going beyond hearing the name of Jesus and immediately turning away, we sense His presence and His power. We are unsettled by His holiness and power and even His love. For some of us this love is so overwhelming we can scarcely understand a love like His – and we bolt. For some of us, we feel that difference between His righteousness and our own and instead of receiving His forgiveness – we don’t believe, we lack the faith.

Jesus, help our unbelief. By Your Spirit please help us go beyond the unsettled feelings when we hear Your name and help us to get to know You. Your yoke is easy and Your burden is light. You are of a humble nature and teach us gently. Help us trust You, the author and finisher of our Faith. I ask in Your name, Jesus, for the glory and praise belonging to You. Amen.

Has the name of Jesus stirred something in you? Would you like to get to know Jesus? Please ask Him I to your heart. Visit the Power of the Gospel page on our blog, leave a comment or email us.

God bless you and keep you.

This blog is for anyone who wants to know more about Jesus and His love and how faith in Him plays out in real life application. Hello, we are Jerry and Angela and we are two fools for Christ. We have decided to make our lives totally surrendered to Jesus in response to His love and His gift of salvation. We are in our early 40′s and we have two children together and [Angela has] an older daughter that is now an adult. We have been married to each other for going on ten years. We surrendered our lives to the Lord together in 2010 and have been growing in that relationship with Him and each other since that time. We both accepted salvation and made professions of faith earlier in our lives, but did not make Him Lord and Savior until 2010. At that time we realized that trying to walk in our own strength and our own ways was useless and empty and had led us to another rock bottom experience. We humbly turned our lives over to Jesus and have been seeking Him with all that we are ever since. That does not mean that we have become perfect. That does not mean that we have not sinned again. That does not mean that we have not had trouble or trials or storms since that time. What this means is that we are growing, we are learning, we are becoming more loving and compassionate and forgiving. We want to share our faith with our readers. We want to share our growth process and transformation with you. We wish to encourage you and lift you.
