Video blog part 4 – Faith and God’s Work in Us

This is part 4 of our first taping of where we sat down over coffee and discussed our beliefs and shared some of what we are learning as Christians.
In this short video (Jerry does more of the talking in this one) we talk about how faith starts and grows.
This one is less than 4 minutes!

This blog is for anyone who wants to know more about Jesus and His love and how faith in Him plays out in real life application. Hello, we are Jerry and Angela and we are two fools for Christ. We have decided to make our lives totally surrendered to Jesus in response to His love and His gift of salvation. We are in our early 40′s and we have two children together and [Angela has] an older daughter that is now an adult. We have been married to each other for going on ten years. We surrendered our lives to the Lord together in 2010 and have been growing in that relationship with Him and each other since that time. We both accepted salvation and made professions of faith earlier in our lives, but did not make Him Lord and Savior until 2010. At that time we realized that trying to walk in our own strength and our own ways was useless and empty and had led us to another rock bottom experience. We humbly turned our lives over to Jesus and have been seeking Him with all that we are ever since. That does not mean that we have become perfect. That does not mean that we have not sinned again. That does not mean that we have not had trouble or trials or storms since that time. What this means is that we are growing, we are learning, we are becoming more loving and compassionate and forgiving. We want to share our faith with our readers. We want to share our growth process and transformation with you. We wish to encourage you and lift you.

  1. If God is the author of our faith, than how can I have faith? By that I mean, we often tell people “you need to have faith” but if god is the author of faith, it would seem to me that telling someone to have faith is like ordering your spouse to love you. And of course we all know that the only genuine love is that which is given not because it was ordered but freely and honestly given.

So, to me I think of faith not as something I myself possess and that I myself could have more of; rather, I can choose to let go and simply see God which is beyond my own idea of who I think I am.

Fun video! Best wishes on your future posts.

    1. I do understand and receive your point. You are correct to point out that because God does give us each a measure of faith and then He grows it – we are not really correct in telling people to have more faith. Where I think that we can encourage others is to exercise their faith. That is a much better way of explaining what it is that we are trying to get across. Yes, God is the author and the perfecter of our faith – we do need to walk in that faith, persevere in that faith, rest in that faith and allow Him to grow that faith.

I was thinking about this the other day. There are a lot of us who thought that once we had saving faith that we would be quickly and easily changed into a better person or what others thought of as a good person. Struggling with sin, temptation, fears, shame, our past and anything else was not something that was really expected. I kind of thought that believing in Jesus, praying the right way, acting the right way and doing the right things was going to make my life be so much better. My faith has grown now to where I know that none of that is what saves me or gives me hope. I can do nothing right enough to make all of my problems go away. What my faith now understands and believes is that God is sovereign, good and loving and that His Son, Jesus, is my Lord and is who paid the price for all of my wrongs and He intercedes for me on my behalf even today. I also believe that Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to comfort me, warn me, teach me, guide me, convict me when needed and helps me to pray. God has grown my faith from just realizing that I needed Jesus to knowing that I am His and He is mine and that I can rest in Him and His finished work on the cross. Faith is a journey and that is why He is the author and perfecter of faith. Jesus writes a love story with our lives and there is a beautiful and happy ending when we allow Him to help us grow in our faith.

** Every video and post is just spur of the moment… If we need to study some issues some more then I pray that God reveal to us where and how to respond and all that we need to learn and that any and all wisdom that we may share comes only from Him. Praise the Lord!***
